Genius Loci Weimar 2017
About 500 years ago, the movement to rebuild the direct path to the faith in Christ in the ballooned incrustation of Church. The Herderkirche tells us the story of the thorny path; the faith speaks far more subtly than the money. We’d like to etch the poise of the city as “the city of the mirror.” Its dynamics can represent the model of what we hope for life.

今からちょうど500年前、膨張し形骸化した宗教を信仰の手に取り戻す運動が始まった。やがてその大きなうねりは国を越えて、人々は金ではなく信仰によって救われることになったのだとヘルダー教会は語ってくれる。この教会が持つ記憶を、記号化された都市の姿《鏡の街》として顕現させたいと思う。そこでは、あるいは文化、あるいは芸術、あるいは都市の姿そのものが堆く構築されまた解体される。そしてまた次の何かを構築するためにうごめき続けるのである。鏡の街で起こる出来事はそのまま私達の生きる世界にかつてあり、今あり、これからもあるだろう。果たしてこの律動は、私達が押し流されていく明日をどう変えていくのだろうか？

At the open competition vying for the International Media Art Festival, Genius Loci Weimar, participation, we got the first prize and got the right for its art mapping projection. Our group FLIGHTGRAF will take up the projection mapping for Herderkirche, which was the church that ignited the later religious revolutionary fire by Martin Luther and the like.
This event takes place at Weimar in Germany, which is one of the World Cultural Heritage sites. Every year three different buildings are chosen specially for the façade mapping, and only one group/person will be given the right for the projection to each building through the open competition. And we are honored, this year, to receive the right for Herderkirche. About two other buildings: Cranachhaus will be taken care of by Desilence, and Notebank, which was the first bank that issued Deutsche mark, will be mapped by Hotaru Visual Guerrilla.
This event will take place from 11th through 13th of August this year, together with other fun events around. Anyone who are interested in it, please come and join us.

国際的なメディア・アートの祭典『Genius Loci Weimar』にて、１ヶ月に及ぶ審査期間を経て最優秀賞を受賞し、作品の制作件を獲得しました。FLIGHTGRAFはルターなど、ドイツ宗教改革の中心となった教会『Herderkirche』のプロジェクションマッピングを担当します。
このイベントはユネスコの世界遺産に登録されているドイツの文化都市”ワイマール”を舞台に、毎年異なる建物３個につき、各１組しか制作件を与えられないという、大変光栄なイベントです。FLIGHTGRAFの他に、旧クラナッハ邸である『Cranachhaus』を担当するDesilenceと、ドイツマルクを発行した旧銀行の『Notenbank』を担当するHotaru Visual Guerrillaで今年は構成されています。
イベントは８月１１日～１３日に開催され、バウハウス大学の協力の元様々なイベントが行われる予定ですので、お盆休みの予定を決めかねている方は是非こちらに足を運んでみてはいかがでしょうか？

Together with a large scale repairing of Odawara castle in Odawara city, Kanagawa Prefecture, Tokiwagi-Gate Samurai Hall was newly opened on the second floor of Tokiwagi-Gate at the Keep Square in the Odawara Castle Site Park. In its exhibition room, an exhibition specialized in Japanese battle gear, such as armor and swords, is held, and at the same time the resolve of Bushido and the beauty of Japanese battle gear are introduced. And in the permanently facilitated projection mapping theater, “Hanautsuyoroi”, armor-cut-into-flower, is rolling.
The story runs reminiscing about the past battle, whose remains are solidified in the armor. A warrior fought a duel with an enemy, and the enemy lay dead on a road, turning into cherry blossoms. But eventually death would also await the triumphant warrior, and he himself turned into blossoms. We wanted to show that the fiercer the battle is, the more fragile our life looks. At the scene of the duel, we took up a graceful carriage of an actor specialized in the swordsmanship into motion-capture, depicting the seasoned motion of a warrior facing the duel.
The picture is projected against the custom-made white armor and a folding screen, and the wall. By using three sets of projectors, we could reduce the inevitable shadow behind the armor to the minimum, as a result, the primal energy of life exchanged sparkles so vividly around you. This work can lead you to our trial that technology melting into a story can have the power to invite you to the vicarious joys and sorrows of the past.
