LOOP – Kinetic Light Sculpture – COMING SOON: DESIGNTIDE TOKYO 2025

LOOP is a Kinetic Light Sculpture which entices you into conversation with faraway space. This artwork invoked by inspiration from the mystic energy of mystery circles and the symbolic power of an endless circle is featured in the luminous disks which have precise vertical movement. They connect, reiterate, and represent continuance, which gave birth to LOOP.

At first glance, these units look like lighting fixtures. But when switched on, they slowly begin to move up and down as if breathing, and emit light. With several units synchronized together, the movement, light, and sound begin to harmonize, and they embrace the whole space to sublimate.

LOOP is a module kinetic lighting system and easily installed, and controllable by wireless control. It is an art piece with art and a product merged together without any handling complication, when fragility and difficulty in handling are often seen in kinetic art.

DEVELOPMENT NOTICE

LOOP is currently in advanced development stage.
A special preview featuring 10 fully operational units will be exhibited at DESIGNTIDE TOKYO 2025.This kinetic light sculpture represents ongoing research in synchronized movement and light choreography.

Photosynthesis is a breathing light sculpture designed to blend seamlessly into nature—emitting light within a forest as if it were alive, while also being capable of traveling into urban landscapes. This object was born from the desire to create a work that can exist both in nature and within the city.

Built around the concept of a “tree that breathes with light,” Photosynthesis takes its name from the process itself. Like plants deep in the forest that absorb and release light, the sculpture carves luminous rhythms that feel as if they are breathing—slowly inhaling and exhaling light.

The work possesses an improvisational relationship with its surroundings. Whether indoors or outdoors, it enters into dialogue with the space, generating rhythms and atmospheres that can only emerge in that specific place and moment.

Its waterproof, battery-powered, and modular structure allows the piece to function both as a lighting system and as an autonomous artwork—an example of what we call “usable art.”

Across festivals, outdoor exhibitions, live performances, and other contexts where nature and landscape play a central role, Photosynthesis becomes a device for rethinking the coexistence of technology and nature.

自然の中に溶け込み、森の中で光を放ち、呼吸するような作品。さらにそれを、都市の風景のなかへと持ち出せるようなものを作りたい。そうした想いから、このオブジェは生まれました。
“光で呼吸する木”というコンセプトを軸に名付けたPhotosynthesis（フォトシンセス）＝光合成は、まるで森の奥深くで光を吸い、吐き出す植物たちのように、呼吸するように光を刻みます。

この作品は、即興的に風景と交わる力を持ち、屋内外を問わず空間と対話し、その場所にしか生まれないリズムと気配を創出することを可能にします。

防水・バッテリー駆動・組み換え自由という構造は、演出装置としても、ひとつの作品としても機能する”使えるアート作品”のかたちです。フェスティバル、野外展示、ライブ演出など、自然や風景と関係性を築くあらゆるシーンにおいて、テクノロジーと自然の共生を再考するための装置となるでしょう。

The concept was inspired by the theme of the event, “”””LINK””””. From this theme, we envisioned a life game in which life and death are observed.
When we look at the world from a bird’s eye view these days, we sometimes feel as if we are being manipulated by someone. Is there a connection, or was there already a connection?
This work aims to be an expression that asks that question to the audience.

The sea is the storehouse of carbon dioxide. It is said that the basic foundation of the ecological house is phytoplankton. For instance, a dead whale can nourish various kinds of creatures for a hundred years, of which phytoplankton are born, and then they absorb carbon dioxide that had been welded into the sea.

Thanks to the invisible boon of the seemingly unconnected incidence deep in the sea, we can sustain our life. Whether or not we are aware of this graceful gift, we are all stringed with a cord of life. This connection is not limited in the environmental world. Just as the people here were once connected through the language and the rituals, today we are here woven together through sound and light. In our artwork today, we try to describe the connection of the environment and people as a line, and it is transformed into a circle, and then the whole resonates in the Echo from the invisible boon. We would like each and every person in the audience to feel they are part of the necessary life-line of the ecosystem.

We took charge of creating an artwork for Vision in the main lounge of “the 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku”.

This artwork came into being as the self-inspired one out of the artwork presented at Genius Loci in 2021. The work, “Rhythm And Line,” in 2021 was the one projection-mapped to Franz Liszt’s residence out of respect for this great Magician of Piano. Just as Liszt fanned a fresh breeze into the then world of music, our work this time is the updated “Rhythm and Line” dedicated to Sakamoto Ryuichi, who was also the musician that stirred up a fresh wind in the modern music world.

In 109 Cinemas Premium Shinjuku, there is provided a lounge special use for viewers an hour before the movie begins. Its design theme is TIMELESS MODERN to let you enjoy that “moment” and that “sound.” In the comfortably subdued atmosphere, the 9th and 10th floors will provide you with spacious room studded with intriguing items and impressive artworks invoking the hue of the town of Kabuki-cho in Shinjuku.
The picture content of the Vision in the center of the main lounge will immerse you in the felicity to let you flow in the unhurried time and a fondness for sound, and it was selected as well as to harmonize with the music in the main lounge, “109 Shinjuku-Lounge,” which was composed by Sakamoto Ryuichi ( with the co-composer, Marcus Fisher ).

「１０９シネマズプレミアム新宿」メインラウンジ内・ビジョンのアート作品を制作しました。
この作品は、2021年にワイマールで行われたイベントGenuis Lociで発表した作品に自らインスパイアされたものです。
2021年に発表した”Rhythm And Line”は「ピアノの魔術師」といわれ、当時の音楽界に新風を吹き込んだフランツ・リストに敬意を表し、ランダムな表現を取り入れたプロジェクションマッピング作品です。
今回は現代音楽に新風を吹き込んだ音楽家として活躍された、坂本龍一氏のためにアップデートしたものになっています。
１０９シネマズプレミアム新宿には、映画上映前に利用できる鑑賞者専用ラウンジがあります。
“TIMELESS MODERN”をテーマに、落ち着いたトーンの中に新宿・歌舞伎町の街の色を感じさせるような印象的なアイテムやアート作品がちりばめられた空間です。
そんな穏やかな時間が流れるラウンジの中心にあるビジョンの映像コンテンツとして、また坂本龍一氏が手掛けたラウンジのための楽曲（「109 Shinjuku – Lounge」　*マーカス・フィッシャー氏との共作）とも調和するものとして、制作した作品となっています。

Our artwork this time focuses on “Pause.” Aren’t we passing up many substantial ideas and beautiful things in our busy daily life in too swiftly sweeping societies?
We need to pause to take a good look at ourselves, and then to observe our object face to face, slowly, giving it sufficient time.
Maybe we will notice what we have passed by and a noticeable experience we have passed over inadvertently. If you can pause and find this kind of slowly flowing time, it will nurture your inner vision to generate a new idea and to have enough courage to delve into a new experience. This is what we believe.
The theme of this artwork is the question addressed to all of us, “Can you now PAUSE?”

今回の作品は「止まる」ということに焦点を当てている。
私達は日々忙しい中で、間違いなく、本当に存在する新しいアイデアや、美しいものをこの早すぎる現代社会において多く見逃しているのではないだろうか？
私達は一度立ち止まり、自分を見つめなおし、そして、ゆっくり時間をかけて対象物と向き合う必要がある。
もしかしたら今まで見過ごしていた事や物、体験に気付くかもしれない。
その時間を作ればきっとあなたにもいい結果となるはずだ。
私たちはそう信じている。この作品のテーマは明瞭で『あなたは今、立ち止まれているだろうか？』と問いかける作品である。

There is the tiniest thing in the universe called a fundamental particle. Some of them assemble together and form a world and some flew from the fathomless part of the universe and travel through our bodies. Even though we have not known much about how these invisible particles precisely work and what they bring to us, some think they have some effective power on things and even on human mind.
Thinking of their miraculous existence, we made this artwork in mind that if these particles can exert their power on our mind and body, then they must have some effective power on architecture since they are material as well. The particles shot from space pierce through us and the effect spreads throughout the world. And the seemingly far-away space must be linked with the world spreading in front of our eyes.

素粒子という最も小さな物質がある。あるものは集合して世界を形作り、あるものは宇宙の果てから来て私たちの身体を通り抜ける。肉眼では捉えられないこれらの粒子が何をもたらすのかはまだ知られていないことも多く、一見個々に離れた物質や人の心にまで何らかの影響を及ぼしているという見方もある。
今回の作品は、この不思議な存在に思いを馳せながら「もし我々の身体や心に素粒子たちが影響を及ぼしているとしたら、物質である建物にも何らかの作用が働いているはずだ」という思考のもと作られた。
宇宙空間から放たれた素粒子が我々を通り抜け、その影響が世界に広がっていく。遠く離れているように感じる宇宙は、思ったより目の前の世界と近く繋がっているのかもしれない。

Light Turns Into Hope – INTERVALS FESTIVAL 2022

Art can get to our hearts, and enrich our feelings, and as such it will bring light and invoke hope and confer peace upon us. After contemplating a lot over our participation with our team members and the host organizers, we have come to realize it is meaningful to take part in.

Our artwork called projection mapping is created by projecting light against an object and giving it various expressions to the world, thus it can convey its creator’s hopes and feelings to the spectators.

“Light Turns Into Hope” is the concept and the title of our artwork this time. And we do hope that in this festival and through this festival people can experience and visualize what connects people with people and substantiates peace among us.

In July, 2022, we exhibited “Rhythm And Line” at Richmond Town Hall in Melbourne, Australia, the second time around following Weimar,Germany.
We restructured it as “Rhythm And Line Act 2” to narrate the lines of Richmond Town Hall. We were very happy to be given the opportunity to show it again at a different venue since “Rhythm And Line” is one of our favorite artworks. We would like to express our hearty thanks to those staff of “Leaps and Bounds Music Festival 2022” and the members of the team who gave us hands to finalize this artwork.

22年の7月にオーストラリアのメルボルンのRichmond Town Hallにてドイツのワイマールに次ぐ2回目となる”Rhythm And Line”を公開していました。
“Rhythm And Line”は Richmond Town Hallの形状に合わせて完全に再構築しました。”Rhythm And Line”は我々にとってもお気に入りの作品の一つなので、こうして別の場所で再演できる機会をいただけた事は大変うれしい限りです。
Leaps and bounds music festival 2022 のスタッフ、そして制作に携わっていただいたチームの皆さんのサポートがあってやっと作品の完成ができました。心から感謝しています。

NATURE – Constellations de Metz 2022

I began to remote-work often at home just like many others after the diffusion of Covid 19. At first, I felt at ease and liberated, but with the passage of time, it began to tell on my body, and lastly I got in the blues.
“One day I flew out of my house and boogied on to the beach. There lay indescribable beauty spreading in crisp breeze as far as the eye could see,” said one of our team members. Every one of us could share the visceral longing with him.
Our artwork this time, “NATURE”, was created based on this primal power to move us to nature. Nature can rock our five senses to their foundations even in our fast-moving IT world, and this can tell us there is still a tangible sanctuary in the midst of it.
We would like to make our few minutes’ artwork be the story of describing the moving encounter with nature. The beginning is cast with a gloomy pall, the time we are hemmed in, and then the subsequent dialogue with nature is expanded. We used the natural sound picked up from nature, while reducing the digital sound to a minimum.
Our stage, La cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Metz, has the greatest amount of stained glass in France. It invites natural light and harmonizes effortlessly with the surroundings. We hope our artwork will jibe with the cathedral as if it is part of nature.

新型コロナウィルスが蔓延して以降、多くの人がそうであるように私も家で仕事をすることが増えた。最初は快適に思われたが、時間が経つにつれて身体に不調が表れはじめ、精神的にも塞ぎ込むようになっていった。私はある日家を飛び出して海岸に向かった。そこは信じられないくらい美しい景色で風は澄んでいた。
これは我々のチームの一人の体験だが、誰もが彼の感動を身近に感じた。
今回の作品”NATURE”は、このような自然への原始的な感動に基づいて制作されている。自然はデジタル化が進む現代に生きる人間の五感を揺さぶり、理想郷がまさにその中にあることを教えてくれる。我々はこの数分間の作品を、自然に出会う感動を描いた物語にする。始まりは暗く、閉鎖的な時間を描き、その後に自然との対話を描く。音楽には自然の音を取り入れ、極力デジタルを使わない表現にする。
舞台となるメッスサンテチエンヌ大聖堂はフランスで最も多くのステンドグラスを持ち、それらは自然の光を取り込み美しく調和している。我々の作品もまた自然の一部であるかのように、この大聖堂と調和するものでありたい。
