When you face Liszt’s music, you will be repeatedly surprised at the experimental spirit to be free from the forbearing frameworks or tonal tendencies, and to touch the delicate feelings his magical fingers owned up to, narrating the episodic “Piano Magician.” Among others being an expert on improvisation, he added ad-lib turns here and there to his composition, enjoying the tonal experiment.
We made attention to the aspect of improvised “invisible sound” and to create the artwork into which random digits were introduced. The random algorithm ferments the world of unpredictable sound and pictures, which will trigger tensional imbalance in you. This could be similar to attending Liszt’s concert full of unpredictable discord in which he broke the piano or swooned. Just like a fresh breeze blown into the music world by Liszt, we would also like to pick up the breeze and let the audience experience the beauty of the unexpected.
フランツ・リストの楽曲と向き合ったとき、それまでの決まりきった形式や調性から抜け出そうとする実験的な精神と「ピアノの魔術師」といわれる超絶技巧に基づいて、あまりにも繊細で豊かな情緒が表現されていることに改めて驚かされる。 なかでも即興の名手でもあったリストが楽曲に次々にアドリブを加え、音の実験を楽しんでいたことは非常に興味深く、今回我々はこの「見えない音」に注目し、乱数を取り入れた作品の制作を行った。ランダムなアルゴリズムを使うことで起こる化学反応、予定調和しない音と映像の世界に放り込まれることによって、一種の緊張感がもたらされるだろう。 それはもしかしたら、ピアノを壊したり気絶したりしたという「予定調和しない」リストの演奏会に赴く気分に似ているかもしれない。 果たしてどのような予期しない美しさに触れることができるのか、リストが音楽界に新風を吹き込んだように、これまでになかった体験を提供したい。

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the projection mapping creators all over the world have been spending days of hardships of being unable to produce their new artworks. The mapping artworks can attract a large number of spectators, while there has been glum worry that the big crowd of people will trigger off a new cycle of the pandemic. Under these pandemic measures, most mapping events were forced to be cancelled.
This time, we created this artwork with the hope that we will be able to see the rebirth of such gravitating events. This artwork has been crystallized by the inspiration we received from the mapping creators all over the world as if those creators’ amassed energy and their ballooned inspiration had burst out.
新型コロナウィルスの影響によって、世界中のマッピングクリエイターは作品を作ることが難しい日々が続きました。プロジェクションマッピングは多くの観客を魅了しますが、同時に人が密集することで感染症を拡大させてしまう懸念もあります。このためおよそ2年間もの間、多くのイベントが開催の中止を余儀なくされました。
我々は今回、そうしたイベントがまた復活していくようにと願いを込めてこの作品を制作しています。クリエイターが溜め込んでいたエネルギーが再び放出されるように、インスピレーションがまた爆発するように、世界中のマッピングクリエイターからインスパイアされた作品に仕上げました。

Not so many countries have so dramatic a history as Macao has had. Though tossed about in churns of historical currents of interventions from other countries, the people have waded through the currents with their flexibility and steeled conviction. This conviction materialized, in December in 2019, in the form of her celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Macao Special Administrative Region.
To show our respect for the turning point of the 20th celebration, we created a projection mapping artwork to project to her landmark building, The St. Joseph’s Seminary and Church. This seminary was established by the Jesuits and became the hub of their mission activities in Asia. Its baroque architecture is adorned with the complex structure generating its beauty and diversity, which can tell us in turn a lot about the winding road of her history and culture. In this artwork, we used 20 LED poles and laser beams. Seeing the strength of the harmony emanating from the seemingly chaotic structure of the building, we introduced some uncontrolled random insertions into our artwork on purpose so that these unpredictable insertions will give rise to the chaotic periods of her history and then again be harmonized in due time, and lastly be solidified as one in the picture of the present day of Macao. Our hope and endeavor in this tiny challenge of our artwork may give a little help that Macao will grow in strength and prosperity from now on as well
マカオほどドラマティックな歴史を持つ国は世界にもそう多くないだろう。
他国からの介入や時代の流れに翻弄されながらも、この国の人々はしなやかな生き方と強い信念で逆境に立ち向かってきた。2019年12月に、その信念は特別行政区20周年という形で結実を迎えた。20周年という節目にあたり、我々はマカオのランドマークとしても名高い、聖ヨセフ修道院に投影する一つの作品を制作した。イエズス会によって建設され、アジアでの宣教活動の拠点となったこのバロック建築は、複雑で美しい構造と多様性を特徴とする。そしてそれはまた、マカオの辿ってきた歴史や文化にも通ずるところがあるのではないだろうか。
今回、この作品には20本のLEDポールとレーザーを使用し、また混沌とした中にも調和が生まれているこの美しい聖堂の建築様式に倣って、一部にはあえて予測不能な実験的シーンを取り入れている。そこに生まれる混乱と調和は、今日に至るマカオの姿を彷彿とさせ、ひとつのまとまりとなった今日のマカオの像を描き出す。この国がこれからも未来に向かって発展し続けていくことを、我々のささやかな挑戦を捧げて願う次第である。
